Manual Adjustments

Chiropractic care has grown and expanded to take on many different forms. But the term "chiropractic" still means "done by hand," and manual manipulation techniques remain as powerfully effective today as ever for relieving back pain, neck pain, neurological symptoms as well as musculoskeletal imbalances that threaten your health and well-being. Here at Triad Sports & Family Chiropractic, you and your loved ones can benefit from the manual chiropractic adjustments offered by our chiropractor in Clayton and St. Louis, Dr. Jennifer McCleary.

Principles of A Manual Adjustment

Manual adjustments from our Clayton and St. Louis chiropractor can correct a problem known as subluxation. Subluxation occurs when the internal structures of a joint lose their normal alignment with each other, causing the joint to become stiff and painful. On a larger scale, spinal alignment problems can nudge the body out of balance, pinching nerve tissue, straining muscles and placing extra stress on weight-bearing joints. This misalignment may occur over a long period of time, or it may be the result of an acute trauma such as an auto accident or sport injury. But just as these structures were physically shifted out of alignment, they can be physically shifted back into alignment via manual spinal manipulation from our St. Louis and Clayton chiropractor.

A typical manual spinal manipulation session is preceded by detailed evaluation of your musculoskeletal system, medical and family health histories and any symptoms you may currently be experiencing, such as back pain, neck pain or tingling in the extremities (a sign of spinal nerve impingement). You will then lie down on our treatment table as our Clayton and St. Louis chiropractor administers careful amounts of high-velocity, low-amplitude force to individual joints that are out of alignment. This expertly-applied force can mobilize the joint's ligaments and other tissues, permitting the joint components to fall back into their normal position.

As this occurs, you may hear a "cracking" or "popping" sound -- but don't be alarmed. This effect, which is known as cavitation, is merely the result of gases being released from within the joint, a positive indicator that the joint has been restored its correct alignment.

Conditions Treated by Our St. Louis and Clayton Chiropractor's Manual Techniques

Spinal manipulation from our St. Louis and Clayton chiropractor helps relieve neck pain, back pain and other joint pain but it can also do much more. Correcting your physical alignment can also optimize nerve function, allowing the entire body to perform better. (The very first chiropractic patient had his hearing restored during a manual adjustment.) It's a safe, drug-free, non-surgical way to treat injuries, manage chronic pain and even prevent future health and wellness issues.
